23.06.17, Chandigarh: The Punjab government has decided to provide free dialysis service in all government hospitals and medical colleges with immediate effect. The formal announcement in this regard was made by health minister Brahm Mohindra in Punjab legislative assembly on Friday.
Mohindra said that state government was committed to provide free health services to the poor people in Punjab. He said that free dialysis facility would available in all government health institutes in the state where the treatment was already being provided. As per record of year 2016-17, total 11,596 dialysis sessions were held in government hospitals and medical colleges.
He said that the government would have to spend only Rs 1 crore even if the facility was extended free to cost to all the citizen of Punjab.
All district hospitals, medical colleges and some sub-divisional hospitals (Abohar, Batala and Dahuya) would provide free dialysis facility as of now. He said that the state government would also plan to provide more dialysis unit as per requirement.
The health department has already strengthened its radiography wing with the new recruitment of 58 radiographers and 2 ECG technician, the House was told.
